Reveal: Monochrome in Midtown Loft, Sacramento CA

Meet Our Client

Ali is a bachelor in midtown with a clean, modern and minimal aesthetic. He was a mutual friend of Ashlee’s and one night over dinner with friends, it came up that Ash worked for a design firm. He expressed wanting to get his home dialed in and decided that Design Shop would be the one to do it!

The Design Process

Lead Designer: Ashlee

Ashlee was a huge fan of the look Ali wanted to achieve in his space, so she was the perfect fit for this project. His apartment is really modern and contemporary with amazing natural light which gave Ashlee great bones to work with. But sometimes a very modern space mixed with a modern aesthetic can start to look and feel cold, so this was something Ashlee tried to keep in mind while pulling everything together.

To keep his space minimal yet warm and inviting, she added a lot of texture into the space through use of the following:

  • leather
  • mixed textiles
  • linens
  • metals
  • wood elements

She also layered in real plants to give both life and color to an otherwise monochromatic space.

Ashlee’s favorite element in the home: “The lighting this apartment gets is unreal, and the views are amazing as well. I would say my favorite design elements in the house are the pieces from croft house furniture (the coffee table downstairs and chair in the upstairs loft), a local maker out of LA. They make beautiful minimal and practical furniture. Their sierra chair, pictured in the upstairs loft is by far one of the favorite pieces of furniture ever.”
