Nicole was the next girl to join team DSI just over a year ago!

Nicole Wallace, Design Shop Interiors, Design Shop girlsOnce again, Leyla had reached a point in her business where she knew that she needed help!

Leyla and Nicole had been following each other on social media for a few months and at the time Nicole had been working as a full time wedding and portrait photographer. And oddly enough, Nicole had reached out to Leyla probably about 8 or 9 months prior to joining DSI, to see if Leyla needed a photographer for her projects. Leyla kindly responded with a, “Thank you but we already work with a wonderful photographer!” So Nicole thought she had missed an opportunity. Well, a few months passed and Nicole had decided to completely stop shooting weddings and began putting out interior work of her personal home, not sure what would come of it.

Fast forward a few months and Leyla reached out to Nicole on instagram, in search of an interior design assistant to help her with construction! Two weeks later, Nicole became the next girl to join DSI!

Nicole’s journey at DSI has transformed drastically over the last year though.

  • She started as Leyla’s design assistant, and after designing flips for the greater part of 2017, both Nicole and Leyla came to the conclusion this wasn’t her highest and best use. As Leyla could see Nicole had a love and understanding for all things social media, blogging and marketing in general.
  • In the mix of design work, Nicole also began putting her photography skills to use by photographing all of our completed projects. Yep, she brought her camera along to a few installs, showed the images to Leyla and became the go-to photographer for DSI!
side note: Leyla didn’t even remember that Nicole had reached out to her on instagram a few months prior to shoot for DSI, funny how things worked out!
  • One year later and she’s started a new role as marketing coordinator where her days are spent managing social media, running this here blog (hey! it’s me writing this! ;)) and working alongside Leyla’s husband Scott furthering the overall marketing efforts of Design Shop.

In February of this year Nicole was beyond excited to have her first feature in a magazine with the DSI girls, featuring Meghan Phillips of the Honey Agency’s home! And there may or may not also be another surprise come March!

Nicole lives in her 1960’s home with her husband Jeff and their fur-baby, Turbo. She still runs her lifestyle photography business and has since formed a deep-rooted love for shooting interiors. You’ll want to keep an eye on her instagram because she’s always posting home updates since she and her husband have been renovating their home little by little over the last 3 years!

Q & A With Nicole!

Who is your favorite interior designer?
You may or may not notice a theme here at DSI, but Amber Interiors is one of the first interior designers I started following and I have loved her ever since. I love how her designs feel collected but put together.

If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?

It has been a life-long dream of mine to travel through Italy, Amsterdam, Paris, and England. The historical architecture in these places are a photographer’s dream and enjoying a latte along a cobble-stoned road sounds like my perfect afternoon.

What is your biggest interior design pet peeve?
When people buy matching furniture sets. I think a home should feel collected and layered over time. Furniture sets feel very outdated and lifeless to me.

What is your drink of choice?
I am an iced vanilla latte girl all day, every day, any time of year. (OK I don’t drink them every day, but I would if I could ;))

What can people find you doing outside of marketing and photography?
I’m about to sound like an 80 year old woman, but I’m ok with it! I absolutely love reading and having game nights with my friends. I constantly have a stack of books on my night-stand that I work through each night; from fiction to self-help to business books, my nose is always in something.
