Four Budget Friendly Design Tips with Leyla on Good Day Sacramento!

Design Shop Interiors on Good Day Sacramento, Reynen and Bardis HomesToday was another big day for Design Shop Interiors! Leyla had a two-part segment on the popular, Sacramento morning show, Good Day Sacramento! She shared four budget-friendly tips on how to spruce up your home for Spring, including:

  1. having proper window treatments
  2. layering rugs
  3. swapping out existing, builder-grade light fixtures
  4. adding greenery

Since the model homes we have been working on with Reynen and Bardis Homes (The Grounds at Tahoe Park), were finally finished, she thought it would be the perfect place to give a little design inspiration to those tuning in.

Watch the clip below for design tips 1 (window treatments) and 2 (layering rugs)  in our Farmhouse Model Home!

Design Tip #1

We love window treatments!

We think you should get rid of those builder-grade, white, louvre shades, and replace them with a roman shade off of Overstock for a fraction of what you would pay for custom shades.

Remember that a window treatment consists of three parts:
– Window Shades (for privacy)
– Curtain panels (for looks)
– A curtain rod (to hold up your panels)

Design Tip #2

We love layering rugs!

Buy an oversized jute rug to anchor your furniture and then layer it with a smaller, more affordable vintage rug to get the look that you want while not breaking the bank.Design Shop Interiors on Good Day Sacramento, Reynen and Bardis HomesDesign Shop Interiors on Good Day Sacramento, Reynen and Bardis Homes Design Shop Interiors on Good Day Sacramento, Reynen and Bardis HomesIn part two of our Good Day segment, Leyla touched on upgrading those builder-grade can lights, adding in greenery to your home, and discussed how you can incorporate local business, Stikwood into your home!

Watch the clip below for design tips 3 (builder grade light fixture update) and 4 (greenery) at our Modern model home!

Design Tip #3

Swap out your builder-grade can lights for a junction box so you can add a little bit of character with lighting fixtures to your home!

Some of our favorite places to find a budget-friendly light fixture are: Cedar and Moss, Shades of Light, and West Elm.

Design Tip #4

Although we don’t typically endorse fake greenery, we’re willing to make an exception if you’re on a tight budget!

You have to be vigilant about finding fake greenery that doesn’t look fake (this is hard to do!) But we have found that World Market is a great resource for budget-friendly trees that make a statement!
